Radio Contrabanda FM
- Asociación Cultural Radio Contrabanda in Barcelona, Spain is an independent
radio station, that is financed by a cultural organisation, to which 120 associated
persons and 20 supporting groups belong. Contrabanda FM is active in
various European networks, for instance in the International Women's Network
of Independent Radio, "Women, grab that microphone". Beyond daily
programming, Contrabanda FM organizes courses in radio technology for
different groups, conducts public relations work for the radio station and
campaigns, in which it is participating - for example: for the struggle of
the migrant group Sin papeles (Without Papers) in the spring of 2001,
which occupied a church in Barcelona to protest against the miserable conditions,
under which they are forced to live. Contrabanda FM has existed for
ten years and since its inception in 1990 it has worked in close association
with groups and organisations in the city of Barcelona, who share their aims
of solidarity, environmentalism, feminism, anti-militarism and anti-racism.
