Radio Contrabanda FM - Asociación Cultural Radio Contrabanda in Barcelona, Spain is an independent radio station, that is financed by a cultural organisation, to which 120 associated persons and 20 supporting groups belong. Contrabanda FM is active in various European networks, for instance in the International Women's Network of Independent Radio, "Women, grab that microphone". Beyond daily programming, Contrabanda FM organizes courses in radio technology for different groups, conducts public relations work for the radio station and campaigns, in which it is participating - for example: for the struggle of the migrant group Sin papeles (Without Papers) in the spring of 2001, which occupied a church in Barcelona to protest against the miserable conditions, under which they are forced to live. Contrabanda FM has existed for ten years and since its inception in 1990 it has worked in close association with groups and organisations in the city of Barcelona, who share their aims of solidarity, environmentalism, feminism, anti-militarism and anti-racism.
